All Six Partners Make Super Lawyers List

More workers' comp claimants' attorneys listed than any other firm in the state
(and on the top 100 Philadelphia list, too!)

At Martin LLC we strive to give every client the best possible representation available during their workers' compensation or Social Security Disability claims. This year's Super Lawyers list acknowledges the hard work that our attorneys do for every case. For the 4th consecutive year, the firm has had all six partners listed as Pennsylvania Super Lawyers by the independent rating service Super Lawyers*.

]]> Partners George Martin and Matthew Wilson are two of the few attorneys who have made the 10 year list, which acknowledges the attorneys who have been listed by Super Lawyers since it began in 2004. Joseph Huttemann has been selected to Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for the 8th consecutive year, while John Dogum has been selected for the 7th time.

Partners Matthew Wilson, George Martin and Alfred Carlson have also each been selected to the Top 100 Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.

Five Martin LLC attorneys were also listed as a Pennsylvania Rising Star†. This is Jody Joy's 6th year, Amit Shah's 5th year and Joseph Conlan's 3rd year. Our two Social Security Disability attorneys Joseph Capitan and Maria Harris have been acknowledged for the 2nd year as Pennsylvania Rising Stars.

Attorney Wilson part of faculty at "tough" CLE Event

Martin LLC partner Matt Wilson served as a faculty member for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program entitled "Tough Problems in Workers' Compensation 2013" on Tuesday, April 9^th at the CLE Conference Center in the Wanamaker Building in Philadelphia.

The program covered key areas in Workers' Compensation Law, including:

· Mastering the ins & outs of compensation for medical treatment

· Establishing liability and coverage for injuries in today's mobile workforce

· A review of recent cases

· The judges' perspective

· Fee review

Attorney George Martin Honored by Local Conservation Group

George Martin, founding partner of Martin, LLC was recently honored by the French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust with the "Morris Conservation Award" for his contributions to the organization's work.

Martin, who was honored along with his wife, Christy, has a deep commitment to the environment. He and his wife are both former French & Pickering Trust board members. His George and Miriam Martin Foundation (named for his parents) has given more than $3 million to organizations working to protect rivers and watersheds, and he is a Vice President of the Board of Trustees for Earthjustice, the world's largest nonprofit environmental law firm.

Martin's respect in the environmental volunteer community is matched by his professional stature in the legal community. He has served over the years in a number of leadership roles for the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and other industry groups. In 2013, he was again named to the "The Best Lawyers in America" and given the prestigious designation of "Lawyer of the Year" for Workers' Compensation. Only a single lawyer in each practice and metropolitan area is given this honor. Additionally, he has been named a "Top 100 Super Lawyer" annually since 2005.

Martin Banks Announces New Name: Martin LLC

The partners of law firm Martin Banks, founded in Philadelphia in 1979, are pleased to announce we have changed our name to 'Martin LLC.'

The new moniker simplifies the firm's brand to reflect the one name that has consistently appeared on the firm's marquee since 1979. It was selected by the partnership as a whole to reflect their unified commitment to a memorable brand rather than a roll call.

"All too often, law firm names change because an individual partner joins or leaves," said the equity partners of the firm in a joint statement. "The external focus, then, shifts to the people involved instead of on the firm's work. The vision of George Martin when establishing this firm over three decades ago was simple: help Pennsylvania's injured and disabled workers. By adopting the title of 'Martin LLC,' we now have a name as simple and strong as the mission on which we were founded."

A strong mission indeed, as staying the course after a firm reorganization almost three years ago has been key for the firm, according to George Martin himself. "In the last few years we have grown in every way possible: in number of attorneys, in services for clients, diversity, everything."

Attorney Harris "Writing" Article Published

Attorney Maria E. Harris, recently had an article published
in The Legal Intelligencer. The article, "The Significance of Writing in the Legal Setting" was published in the "Young Lawyers Supplement" to The Legal Intelligencer on Tuesday, January 22.

In the article, Maria talks about being an attorney annd why the ability to write, proficiently, is imperative. "Writing in the law is a form of art - advocacy in its most creative form. The goal is to paint a pathway that leads to an obvious conclusion, one that the reader could and should have reached on his or her own when given the same information." Read the full article here.

Martin Banks Again Named "Best Place to Work"

Martin Banks has once again been named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal's 2011 Best Places to Work. This list includes approximately fifty companies in the Delaware Valley Region, ranging from small businesses to large corporations. This is Martin Banks' second year named on the Best Places to Work list, which we could not have done without the help of our employeess.

Martin Banks was nominated for this honor earlier in the summer and our employees to were asked to fill out an anoynomous online survey. This survey rated employee satisfaction in numerous categories including team effectiveness, which is an extremely neccessary component of an effective law firm. Our survey results were measured against comparable sized companies, eventually resulting in Martin Banks being ranked as one of 2011 Best Places to Work.

The Business Journal will reveal the top-scoring winners at a private cocktail and networking event. Look for our profile in the special print supplement on October 12.

Martin Banks supports Radiothon for CHOP

For the second year in a row, Martin Banks was a proud sponsor of last week's 98.1 WOGL Loves Our Kids Radiothon to benefit Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Marketing Manager at the firm, April Colby, attended the Radiothon at CHOP and presented Martin Banks' donation of $3,000.

The WOGL Radiothon is a fundraising event for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) at the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania, which in the pass eleven years has raised over $5.5 million dollars for the CMN. The two-day event allows for the 98.1 radio listeners to make donations by phone, online or in person. It also provides live entertainment, games and crafts for the children who are staying at CHOP.

Martin Banks is honored to be a supporter for such an important institution in the community of Philadelphia.

Attorney Joe Huttemann Authored "Workers' Comp Certification" Article

Partner Joe Huttemann recently authored an article on "The New Workers' Compensation Certification: Breaking Ground for the Pennsylvania Bar Association" for The Legal Intelligencer, the oldest law journal in the United States. Joe's article reviewed this landmark new process for attorneys and its expected impact on the profession...not just for attorneys who practice Workers' Compensation, but those in other practice areas in Pennsylvania, for whom this process might serve as a pilot program. Not only did Joe Huttemann review this process and its impact, but partner Matt Wilson served on the actual certification committee and helped to shape and plan the process and its implementation in the state.

New Attorney Maria Harris Candidate for YLD Executive Committee

Maria E. Harris is the firm's newest associate, focusing her practice on Social Security Disability and Long-Term Disability.
Ms. Harris is a member of the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association and is currently running as a
candidate for election to the Executive Committee. She is one
of nine candidates that are seeking seven positions in this year's YLD Executive Committee election to be held on December 6.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Harris practiced at an international defense firm litigating insurance matters in the areas of life, health disability and ERISA claims. Prior to that, she served as a law clerk in the Family Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey.

In 2007, Ms. Harris earned her law degree from Widener University School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Rosemont College in 2003. Ms. Harris is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania. She is also a member of the American and Philadelphia Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, Women in the Profession and Minorities in the Profession. She is NJ State Certified Bilingual Spanish/English.

Family Health and Safety Festival 2011

This Saturday, September 24, State Senator Shirley Kitchen, State Representative Mark Cohen, and Councilwomen Marian Tasco and Maria Quiñones-Sánchez will host the Family Health and Safety Festival. This Festival will be held at Fisher Park (600 West Spencer Street) from 10AM - 8PM. This event is free to the public and will include entertainment, health screening, speakers and giveaways.
